IN BRIEF: The Stealth Politico

Even with Campaign 2004 now over, the political machine never stops, and inevitably even those of us outside the realm of politics can find a little bit of mud being slung our way.

Whether researching competitors' activities, potential partners', or anyone else, it can help to know where their political backing is going.  Thanks to the Freedom of Information Act and other little nuggets of campaign finance law, most campaign contributions must be disclosed to the public.

Fundrace.org helps us out by pulling all of this information together onto a single web site.  Visitors can search for political donors by name, address, and/or simply by ZIP code, so there's no reason not to be informed.

Fundrace.org only tracks donations made by individuals, not corporations, so be sure to know the names of an organization's leadership before submitting a query.  Interestingly, numerous donors use their business' address, not their home's, when making contributions, it might be worth plugging in the locale of an organization's headquarters to see what records come up.

Best of all, Fundrace.org is free.  So, there's now no reason to keep tabs on the executive management of your competitors and enjoy a new perspective on what's driving their actions.
