More
powerful than a hurricane
What
could possibly handle the force of one of nature's most
powerful phenomenons? The determination of the Framatome
ANP and Florida Power & Light (FPL) team. To install
a pressurizer and reactor vessel head at St. Lucie,
they went beyond responsiveness to brave some unpleasant
hurricane conditions and meet all quality, schedule
and dose metrics.
A huge success, this installation
marked the first time in the world that a PWR pressurizer
was replaced. The effort required an enormous amount
of coordination with teams from FPL, Mammouet and SGT.
Thanks to prior experience, these teams were able to
make up time lost due to Hurricane Wilma. Plus, our
track record with steam generator and reactor vessel
head installation contributed to getting the job done
on schedule. The customer relied heavily on our welding
experience and understanding of the requirements to
cut out the old components and deliver a precision fit
on the new ones. This first-of-a-kind installation also
resulted in no weld defects on the Surge Line Weld.
Success? It can be as simple as a determined, seamless
team effort.
