bolt solution
Fast. As in knowing where to turn. Who to rely on. How

It was mid-November. An urgent call was received from
one of our customers. "Our baffle-to-baffle bolt
in the core baffle plate seems as if it's backed out."
Did we mention fast? How about a solution that includes
a mast-type manipulator capable of inspection, repair
or replacement? Sure. We can do that. How about completing
the job in just 56 hours? With just a few of our own
calls and some quick, responsive action, here's how
we delivered.
To ensure integrity of the customer's
core we determined that, at a minimum, we should inspect
rows 4, 5 & 6 of the baffle-to-former bolts. Our
teams stood ready to handle a potential repair or replacement
challenge if defective bolts were found. Framatome ANP
confronted the challenge on parallel fronts - developing
a mast-type manipulator capable of inspection, repair
or replacement, but also looking within our vast global
resources for an instant, off-the-shelf solution. And
we found it. Our German colleagues had the SUbmarine
System for Inspection (SUSI). And it had been used successfully
over and over again for this type of application. Our
mission? Get it here, quickly and safely adapt a new
set of ultrasonic transducers, then deploy to site.
We rapidly developed the UT technique
to inspect the bolts, then demonstrated and tested it
on samples of the same type of bolts slated for inspection.
This entire process, from phone call to delivery, took
only two weeks. But there's more. The examination on-site
progressed so well, the scope was expanded to encompass
ALL 8 rows or 864 of the baffle-to-former bolts. All
completed in just 56 hours. Did we mention that the
inspection began on Thanksgiving Day? Want to rely on
